Roulette has had a long time to become familiar. So has blackjack. Even people who rarely play either usually know what the table looks like and roughly what is supposed to happen next. Aviator comes from a very different corner of casino gaming. There is no effort to recreate a table, no dealer waiting for a decision and not much decoration getting in the way. A number starts moving and, for a few seconds, that number is basically the whole game. That sounds almost too simple, yet it explains why Aviator bet feels so far removed from the older casino favourites. Roulette asks you to make your choice before the wheel gets going. Blackjack unfolds around the cards already on the table. With Aviator, the part that matters is still happening while the player is deciding what to do.

Roulette likes the wait, Aviator does not

A roulette round has a certain amount of hanging around built into it. Bets close, the wheel spins, the ball jumps around and eventually everyone gets the answer. Speed the whole thing up too much and roulette starts losing some of what makes it roulette. Aviator has no such attachment to the wait. The multiplier can start climbing almost immediately and there is very little between one round and the next. That makes Aviator betting feel much closer to the way a lot of online games are used now: open it, understand what is happening quickly and get straight into a round. The strange part is that those short rounds can still feel quite long when the multiplier keeps climbing. Five seconds does not sound like much until you are deciding whether to cash out at four, five or six.

Blackjack gives you more to work with

Blackjack is a different comparison because players are also making decisions during the hand, but there is more information around those decisions. You have cards in front of you, you can see the dealer’s card and the game has a structure people learn over time. Aviator takes most of that away. There is no hand to read and no wheel to follow. The tension comes from not knowing when the climb will stop. That makes it easier to understand visually, although not necessarily easier to make a decision in the moment. Watching the multiplier move past the point where you nearly cashed out has a habit of making the next few seconds feel much more important than they probably looked at the start of the round.

The old games have not suddenly become old-fashioned

None of this means Aviator has made roulette or blackjack look outdated. If anything, it has made the differences between casino games more obvious. Old-school casino games have a lot of their appeal tied up in traditions people already know. Aviator has almost none of that baggage, and it does not seem particularly interested in acquiring any.
